New Conference Venue Launch
Holiday Inn Sandton, Rivonia Road, introduces spectacular new conferencing facilities
The long-awaited launch of the Holiday Inn Sandton, Rivonia Road´s brand-new conferencing facilities took place on a dark, wet and frosty Wednesday 8 June.
But the dreary weather conditions were quickly overcome by the spectacular presentation of the modern, crisp-clean decor, warm ambience and hospitality shown by the Holiday Inn Sandton Rivonia Road staff.
The hotel´s latest resource shows off flexible configuration capacities, as well as high-tech interior decoration and breathtaking panoramic views of Johannesburg and surrounds.
Master of ceremonies for the evening was Food and Beverage Manager, Jason Hobbs, who spoke of the immense challenges to complete the R8 Million, 9th floor refurbishment project in their planned time of four months. Coffee Projects were called in for the transformation, and Black Smith Interior Aspirations made good on filling it up with modern, clean furnishings and decor.
The 9th floor of the Holiday Inn was popularly known as 123 on Rivonia, and The Oval Bar - an Indonesian-themed restaurant and bar area. The idea was to remove the entire structure of the restaurant and then build conferencing facilities. In order not to disturb guests, they drilled a hole in a wall and used manpower to wheel up and down rubble and new material to and from the 9th floor.
“2010 was the year for change and we decided to turn the restaurant into something new. We had the ability to offer a secure venue that caters to the changing needs of our guests. Despite some sadness, the Oval Bar is gone and is resting in peace in somewhere in our memories,&rdquo said Hobbs.
Boasting elegance and style, the venue will be able to seat 300 people. When split into three rooms, they are able to accommodate 100, 80, 80 people respectively in banquet style.
The Cullinan Suite, named after the largest gem-quality diamond ever found, is a combination of three, brand-new conferencing rooms - Cullinan 1, 2 and 3 - and can be adapted into cinema, school room and cabaret-style configurations, capable of hosting up to 240 guests at any given time.
Each conference room at the Holiday Inn Sandton is fully equipped with audiovisual functionality and individually controlled air-conditioning, and makes use of natural light in addition to other light sources. Tea and coffee facilities are easily accessible from the facility, and meals are served by the hotel´s dedicated banqueting department housed in the ground floor´s Lettuce and Lime restaurant. Two sets of elevators, located on either side of the floor, also make access to other areas of the hotel quick and easy.
The lavish Skye Bar is located nearby on the same floor, and is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a cocktail after a successful day´s conference, and is sure to leave guests feeling on top of the world. Two levels of ample parking are provided underground. Delegates are provided with access key cards for security and exclusivity.
In addition, conferences are catered for with exquisite light meals and cocktails upon request.
The evening followed with a display of exquisite diamond jewellery from African Romance, draped on elegant models, a dance performance from Kashvita Dance Academy and the cutting of the ribbon by Gerald Nelson (CEO: Hospitality property fund)and the cake by Holiday Inn General Manager Nils Rothbarth.
It ended on a high note of good networking opportunities, delicious champagne and cocktails and an interesting menu of hors devours.
