BMS identifies overload on Distribution board
Guests were asked to evacuate this morning at Holiday Inn, after a smoke alarm went off, activated by the Distribution Board (DB) in the parking lot. The Sandton Fire Department arrived within minutes after the alarm was raised and immediately investigated the cause. As a safety precaution all guests and staff were evacuated to the assembly point across the road from the hotel, as the automatic evacuation policy is a standard practise, for smoke triggered alarms.
According to the hotels Group Operations Manager, David Smith, the Holiday Inn (IHG) subscribes to stringent international standards of fire practice.
The Sandton Fire Department completed a thorough investigation and then gave the green light for repairs to commence to the DB Board. Investigations reveal a power overload on Council Connection to the circuit breaker in the parking lot caused the DB to trigger the sensor setting on the smoke alarm.
The Distribution Board is the incoming power feed to the properties in the area, and the power is cut during such repairs. Everything is expected to go back to normal, once the council Connection is re established, and commissioned, advises Smith.
